CASQA Moves Annual Conference Online

May 4, 2020
In response to California's indefinite stay at home order, submittal deadlines have been extended and the conference will be converted to a virtual event.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and California's physical distancing requirements, the 2020 California Stormwater Quality Association's (CASQA) Annual Conference, previously scheduled for September 14 to 16, 2020, at the Paradise Point Resort in San Diego, CA, will be migrated to a virtual platform.

California has been under a state-wide Stay at Home order since March 19, 2020. Among other things, the order has canceled all public events and gatherings. California Governor Gavin Newsom announced six indicators the State will consider before modifying the order, more recently providing a four-stage roadmap to reopening the state. However, he has indicated that large gatherings such as live audience sporting events, concerts, and convention centers will be the last things to reopen.

"Part of CASQA’s mission is to educate and this virtual platform will maximize access and opportunities for learning together in 2020," explains the Association's website. "We will develop an outstanding conference experience, albeit a new one, and are choosing to use these next few months to plan ahead and migrate our typical conference components into an interactive virtual platform."

Although further details are expected to come as the format develops, "The conference will be interactive and include the outstanding content and program that we are known for, as well as opportunities for sponsors, exhibitors, and even virtual networking," the event page continues.

CASQA has also extended the submittal Conference Call for Abstracts and Conference Scholarship Program Call for Applications to May 11, 2020, acknowledging that the extra time may be beneficial right now.
