USGS Supports Home Learning

April 24, 2020
New USGS website has weekly lesson plans and activities for students in grades K to 12 and will be updated weekly throughout the spring of 2020.

To better assist with online and home learning, the US Geological Survey Youth and Education in Science (YES) Team has revamped its web presence.

The new USGS Learning From Home portal has weekly lesson plans and activities for students in grades K to 12 and will be updated weekly throughout the spring of 2020. So far the site has six weeks of lessons, with new content posted each Tuesday. Week 4, posted April 7, features activities on surface water and water quality for all grades.

Students of all ages can always tap into the USGS Resources for Teachers for over 140 years of USGS research in the natural sciences in the form of lesson plans and activities, maps, podcasts, online lectures, videos and animations, and much more. Browse thousands of ideas for using these resources in elementary, secondary, university, and informal education settings.

USGS is also updating USGS Geology and Ecology of National Parks with additional photos and information for the benefit of teachers, professors, students, and National Park enthusiasts. The YES Team is accepting suggestions for additional resources and comments for improving the websites.
