While a sediment and erosion control (S&EC) plan may meet regulatory requirements, it’s useless if it is not effective and cannot be implemented by the contractor. Too often S&EC plans meet local regulatory requirements, but are not practical for the contractor to implement on a roadway project, which often creates noncompliant situations. Designers and reviewers need to incorporate their knowledge of sediment and erosion control methods to develop effective S&EC plans which meet regulatory requirements, are practical, and perform once implemented. Effective S&EC plans are those that contractors can implement knowing that designers and reviewers understand BMP limitations, provide sufficient information for timely installation, and take into account that construction sites are dynamic.
