The Shenandoah Watershed
The
name Shenandoah is Native American in origin and can be translated as “Daughter
of the Stars.” Within the larger Chesapeake Bay watershed, the Shenandoah River
drains 1.5 million acres of the eastern ranges of the Appalachian Mountains. The
Shenandoah watershed encompasses parts of 11 counties in two states, Virginia
and West Virginia. The river itself flows from south to north on its way to its
confluence with the Potomac River at Harpers Ferry, WV.
