In
recognizing the impact and speed of change in the watershed, the Regional
Resources Policy Committee–Shenandoah Valley initiated a planning document
called the Shenandoah Valley Water Resources Strategic Plan. The plan was
published in October 2006 and included the 12 water resource goals that were
previously adopted by the region in 2004. These 12 goals are enumerated in the
plan’s “Take Care of the Water” goals matrix; they range from balancing drinking
water demand to natural systems protection and scientific data collection. The
plan addresses a wide range of water-related issues in the Shenandoah Valley,
with the broad goal of preserving the legacy of clean water while providing for
ongoing use and stewardship of the water resource.
